Django Unchained (20

A slave (Jamie Foxx) is hired by a Bounty Hunter (Christoph Waltz) and with his help they set out to free his Wife from a brutal plantation owner (Leonardo Di Caprio) in the deep South.
Expectations are always high when Tarantino releases a picture and bar the dreadful "Death Proof" he very rarely fails to deliver.

All the winning ingredients that you expect from Tarantino are here, a great screenplay, snappy but structured dialogue  ("Gentlemen, you had my curiousity. But now, you have my attention") an unpredictable plot, extreme violence, and of course superb performances from amongst others, the two leads Foxx and Waltz, with excellent co-stars Leonardo Di Caprio and Samuel L Jackson as the vile treacherous Stephen.

A lengthy 165 minute running time never outstays it welcome in a fine start to the year from the Master.
